How to arrange the 12-core optical fiber cable

Follow the TIA-598-C 12-color sequence: Blue, Orange, Green, Brown, Slate, White, Red, Black, Yellow, Violet, Rose, Aqua.Standard 12-Core Fiber Color Sequence

For a 12-core optical fiber cable, each fiber is assigned a unique color to ensure easy identification during installation, splicing, and maintenance. The TIA-598-C standard specifies the following sequence:

  1. Blue
  2. Orange
  3. Green
  4. Brown
  5. Slate (Gray)
  6. White
  7. Red
  8. Black
  9. Yellow
  10. Violet
  11. Rose (Pink)
  12. Aqua (Light Blue) This sequence is applied from fiber 1 to fiber 12 and is repeated for higher-count cables if needed, such as in multi-tube or ribbon configurations .
Arranging Fibers in Practice
  • Single 12-core cable: Simply follow the color order above from the first fiber to the last.
  • Multi-tube cables: Each tube may contain 12 fibers, and the tube itself is color-coded using the same 12-color sequence. For example, in a 48-fiber cable, Tube 1 is Blue, Tube 2 is Orange, Tube 3 is Green, etc., and fibers inside each tube follow the same 12-color order .
  • Ribbon cables: Fibers are arranged side-by-side in a flat formation, and the same 12-color sequence is applied to each ribbon .
Tips for Correct Sequencing
  • Always verify the fiber type (single-mode or multimode) and connector type (UPC or APC) to avoid mismatches.
  • Use fiber identifiers or labels to mark each fiber according to its color and number.
  • For high-density installations, maintain a color-coded map to track fiber routing and connections.
  • When extending beyond 12 fibers, repeat the sequence carefully and consider tube or ribbon identifiers to prevent confusion . By following this standardized sequence, you ensure consistent fiber identification, reduce splicing errors, and maintain proper network performance.
