What is an analog fiber optic communication system

Traditional RF over fiber uses analog RF and fiber-optic (FO) transceivers. In the Analog Fiber DAS, the RF from the analog RF transceivers directly modulates the light inside the fiber via ROF (Radio Over Fiber) Module. Fiber-optic communication is a form of optical communication for transmitting information from one place to another by sending pulses of infrared or visible light through an optical fiber. The light is a form of carrier wave that is modulated to carry information. Fiber is preferred. A microphone converted sound into an electrical signal by varying resistance in a current loop and a speaker converted the current back into sound. The limitation of that system of analog transmission was the limit on long-distance transmission caused by electrical noise and, of course, a current. When implementing an analog fiber optic system, the main parameters one needs to consider are the carrier-to-noise ratio, bandwidth, spur free dynamic range, and signal distortion resulting from nonlinearities in the transmission system. Digital signals are sampled at regular time intervals and the amplitude converted to a number - digital bytes - so the information is transmitted as a digital. All signals are analog, wether if it's electricity (copper), light (fiber) or radio (wifi), signals/waves can have any arbitrary value. However, in the computer world they carry digital information (either 1 or 0) and they are processed digitally, transforming the analog information into digital. Fiber optic transmission is assuming an increasingly impor-tant role in systems for wide-band analog signals and digital signals with high data rates.

Fiber-optic communication

OverviewTechnologyBackgroundApplicationsHistoryParametersComparison with electrical transmissionGoverning standards

Modern fiber-optic communication systems generally include optical transmitters that convert electrical signals into optical signals, optical fiber cables to carry the signal, optical amplifiers, and optical receivers to convert the signal back into an electrical signal. The information transmitted is typically digital information generated by computers or telephone systems.
