How to turn off the fiber optic sensor

Fiber optic sensors can be turned off or disabled by using the preset/disable function, powering down the device, or resetting it to factory settings depending on the model.Disabling via Preset or Control Buttons

Many fiber optic sensors, such as the Keyence FS-N series, allow you to disable detection functions using the preset button. Pressing and holding the button for several seconds can turn off the sensor's active detection, effectively stopping it from responding to objects. This method is often used when you want to temporarily disable the sensor without disconnecting power and cannot be combined with zero-shift functions .

Resetting to Factory Defaults

If you want to fully reset or disable the sensor, you can perform a factory reset. For example, the Keyence FS-N40 series can be reset by selecting the "init" option in the advanced settings menu, which restores the sensor to its default state and stops any custom detection settings . This is useful if the sensor is malfunctioning or you want to start configuration from scratch.

Powering Down

A straightforward method to turn off a fiber optic sensor is to disconnect its power supply. This ensures the sensor is completely inactive. For sensors integrated into larger systems, ensure that powering down does not affect other connected devices.

Using IO-Link or Software Configuration

Some modern sensors, like the SICK WLL80, support IO-Link communication, allowing you to disable or adjust sensor functions via software. You can configure the sensor to stop detection or adjust the switching threshold to effectively prevent it from triggering while keeping it powered . Refer to the device's manual for specific software commands.

Summary
  • Press and hold to disable detection temporarily (Keyence FS-N series).
  • Reset to factory defaults to stop all custom settings (FS-N40 series).
  • Disconnect power for complete shutdown.
  • Use software/IO-Link to disable or adjust detection thresholds (SICK WLL80). Always consult the specific sensor manual for your model to ensure proper procedures and avoid damaging the device.
