  • Splice tray: Where fibers from the feeder cable are spliced to pigtails or splitter input fibers.
  • Splitter tray: A dedicated area for mounting optical splitters and managing their input/output fibers.
  • Sockets or output ports: Where drop cables connect to the end users .
Locating the Splitter Cable
  1. Identify the feeder cable: This is the main fiber coming from the central office or distribution hub. It usually enters the box through the center port or main cable entrance .
  2. Locate the splice tray: Open the splice tray to see where the feeder fibers are spliced. The splitter input fibers are typically connected here.
  3. Find the splitter tray: Many distribution boxes have a small tray or compartment specifically for the optical splitter. The splitter cable will run from the feeder splice point to the splitter input, and then from the splitter output to the drop cables .
  4. Trace the output fibers: The splitter divides the signal into multiple output fibers, which are routed to the distribution ports or drop cables leading to subscribers .
Tips for Identification
  • Color coding: Splitter pigtails are often color-coded to distinguish input and output fibers.
  • Compact routing: Splitter cables are usually neatly coiled or secured in the tray to prevent bending or damage.
  • Documentation: Some boxes have labels or diagrams indicating the splitter location and fiber routing. By following the feeder cable from the entrance to the splice tray and then to the splitter tray, you can reliably locate the splitter cable and its associated output fibers for maintenance or troubleshooting.
